In late July, I had another great learning opportunity. I had the honor of being one of only nine teachers in the country selected for a full scholarship to a workshop to learn about space and STEM activities. The workshop was in Colorado Springs, at the headquarters of the Space Foundation, a great organization that promotes aerospace and astronomy education. They also support a group that I belong to called the Teacher Liaisons, who are ambassadors for space education. (Know another science teacher who likes space and astronomy? They can apply to become a Teacher Liaison at https://www.discoverspace.org/education/educators/teacher-liaisons .) We had sessions on 3D printing, virtual reality, and augmented reality. We worked in teams to solve Mars landing challenges. We had three days of sessions packed with terrific activities that I’m looking forward to bringing to my students in the science lab. Thank you to the Space Foundation, and to the generous donor who sponsored the scholarship. If you’re ever in Colorado, be sure to visit the Space Foundation Discovery Center, and tell them you heard about it from one of their Teacher Liaisons!
