In other grades, Kindergarteners are using pushes and pulls to move things up and down ramps. (When they get to upper grades, they’ll build on this, and develop their understanding of forces and physics.) First graders are demonstrating that plants and animals have parts that help them survive. Second graders are making models of earthquakes and volcanoes that show how the earth can change. Third graders are using magnetic forces to solve problems like recycling and transportation. Fifth graders can explain why some constellations can be seen only during certain times of the year. Sixth graders have just started measuring forces, and will soon be observing Newton’s Laws of Motion.
