Spring is arriving! Next time you’re outdoors, look for daffodils and trees starting to grow buds, and listen for birds singing their spring songs. Several grades are moving on to Life Science units, in which they learn about living things and the environments they depend on. K-2 students were tasked with going on a Nature Scavenger Hunt outdoors, to look for signs of spring. Third graders are learning how animals work in groups by modeling the different jobs of bees in a colony. Fourth graders are learning about structures that animals use to survive - they saw how hard it is to pick things up when finger splints prevented them from using their finger joints, and are making an x-ray drawing of their hand bones. Fifth graders are studying Matter in Science Lab, doing experiments that show that solids, liquids and gases are made of particles too small to be seen. Sixth graders will be moving around a lot as they demonstrate Newton’s three laws of motion, and the forces that affect motion. If you’d like to see examples of student work, ask your child to show you our flipgrids - there’s one for every grade, and for every unit.
