Teamwork. Problem-solving. Deciphering clues. Persistence. These are some of the skills needed to solve puzzles, and to be successful in life in general. I’ve always loved codes and puzzles, and I play a lot of room escapes (where you get “locked” in a room and have an hour to solve the puzzles and “escape.”) So for the back-to-school lab safety activity for 1st through 6th grades, I created a new puzzle hunt. The students need to use what they know about being safe in the lab to find clues, piece things together, and unlock boxes with hidden surprises inside. Will they be able to unlock everything in the time they have?
