Kindergarteners have finished their unit on weather, and are starting to test different types of pushes and pulls to see how forces affect motion. First graders are learning about the parts of plants that help them survive, and are setting up an experiment to see if plants grow differently if they get less light. Second graders are starting a new unit on earth systems, and how changes in the earth can happen quickly or slowly. Lesson one: modeling earthquakes by shaking a whole lot of models, including Jell-O! Third graders are testing the variables that affect the patterns of motion in pendulums. Fourth graders are making different kinds of waves, with gumdrops on duct tape, and bottles of water. Fifth graders have identified an unknown powder based on its properties, and will be doing more experiments with matter. Sixth graders are continuing do different kinds of chemical reactions, and finding evidence that chemical changes have taken place, which can sometimes be very colorful.
