“Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground…”
~The Garden Song by David Mallet
Spring has sprung! This is the time of year when many of our students are learning about plants and other living things. Kindergarten classes are observing insects, Second Graders are comparing different kinds of seeds and the ways they are spread, and Fourth Graders are brushing up on life cycles of plants and animals. The school garden has been weeded and divided into sections and is ready for our students. Over the next few weeks, all students will be planting in the garden. The garden is in the back of the school, and I hope you get a chance to visit it soon. Once we start planting, I’ll tell you more about what each grade is putting in their bed. I’m grateful to everyone who makes the school garden possible: thank you to the Oradell PTA for supporting the garden with funding and help, the Oradell Kids Foundation for funding the installation of sprinklers last summer, the custodial staff at OPS for ongoing maintenance, and of course our students, who will soon plant the seeds that will bring it all to life. “Inch by inch, row by row Gonna make this garden grow All it takes is a rake and a hoe And a piece of fertile ground…” ~The Garden Song by David Mallet
