Kindergarteners are finishing up a unit on Pushes and Pulls with fun challenges like trying to push themselves through a maze on the floor using a scooter, and trying to push a Hot Wheels car just the right amount so it goes up a ramp and through a “Ring of Fire.” First graders are doing a lesson I call “Fill the Bill,” in which they use different tools for different tasks, which helps them understand animal adaptations. Second graders are learning about plants and ecosystems, and are testing whether plants can grow without light. Third graders are using magnetic forces to move objects. Fourth graders used Snapcircuits to see how electricity can power lights and speakers, and have just started writing programs to control Sphero SPRK+ robots. Fifth graders are finishing their Space unit making a paper model that show the correct distances for planets in our solar system and another that shows why some constellations are seasonal. Sixth graders are starting a unit on Forces and Motion, using balances and spring scales to measure masses and weights of some items.
