In August, I watched the eclipse, of course. I had the crazy idea to drive nearly 800 miles with my family, so we could see totality. It was a long drive, but it was so worth it to see the area descend into darkness in mid-day. Everyone should go to the line of totality in upstate New York in 2024.
I’m very happy that our school garden is doing great. The wildflowers planted by last year’s sixth graders are doing especially well, and the kindergarteners’ sunflowers are enormous. The first science lab activity of this year for the new kindergarteners is a visit to the garden to practice our observation skills there. We might even see some butterflies.
Other grades are reviewing lab safety procedures in a new format this year. As each class arrives at the lab, I challenge them to use their knowledge of lab safety and their problem-solving skills to solve a sequence of puzzles. Will they be able to work in teams and open the locked box in one period, and get out the flash drive I need, and save the science lab???? Stay tuned!
